View posts by DanIt was the summer of '70 in Sacramento, California. I needed a project. So I built a SOF kayak. Douglas fir, a thousand screws, canvas, and 3 gallons of house paint...and it still leaked! But to this day it is still around. Today I live in eastern Pennsylvania and kayak on a lake every weekend....when it is not frozen! I enjoy the exercise and solitude I get from kayaking. And bird photography. My original SOF is in Ca. so I have used a Folbot Cooper and a cedar strip 16'8" Endeavor that I bought( I didn't see how I could spend 300 hours building one since I still work and have a lot of other interests). But I wanted to build a kayak, so building a F1 was a good fit.....less hours to build and a lot lighter!
