Mother/daughter canoe build, Norfolk UK

Day 1

I’ve been planning to build a skin on frame canoe for a couple of years now but my wood working skills amount to a bodging group making spoons! Feels like I have a ways to go! After researching the few courses on offer in the UK the only place actually offering any courses starting this year was in Ireland and without having a car would make it a bit difficult transporting my new canoe back to England. Luckily for me my daughter started working in a heritage wood boat yard, Hunter’s Yard in Norfolk last year. After lots of hinting and a bit of persuading, Ela agreed to ask if we could possibly use some space in the yard to build the canoe. They have very kindly agreed so we are lucky enough to have a beautiful space and some lovely wood working equipment to use. Conveniently we also have some gifted boat builders to ask advice if we are completely stumped! Luckily Brian’s plans are so detailed and comprehensive that we’re hoping we can leave the boat builders to their work!
