Former toolmaker but currently working in a mechanical maintenance shop. Twenty-six years ago, I found out about skin on frame boats and really wanted to build one but did not know where to start. I had built a strip canoe, two strip guillemot design kayaks, and finally a stitch and glue canoe. Skin on frame is a whole different process. Problem with canoe building is it becomes addictive. So why start now, well I have been invited to go on a canoe trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan this summer. Although I have a collection of boats, I can use they all weigh more than I am willing to chance to carry due to my age and some physical limitations. So, skin on frame should be the solution to this problem.
